Omacor is a prescription medicine that contains omega-3-acid ethyl esters, which are types of polyunsaturated fatty acids. It is typically used under medical supervision to support the management of lipid levels in the blood and to assist in cardiovascular care following a heart attack. It may be used alone or alongside other medications.

This medicine works by helping to reduce the production of triglycerides in the liver. It does this by using natural fatty acids – eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) – that are less likely to be converted into triglycerides. It also promotes the breakdown of fatty acids, which further reduces the amount available for triglyceride formation.
